Suspension clonk/bang and wobbly sateering dianosis

Any issues relating to suspension, steering and brakes.

Ive been going mad mental trying to find out whats wrong with my cally for a while now and yesterday i finaly found the problem

I have been experiancing wobbly wheel syndome for 5 months now and no amount of wheel balancing cured it.

Recently the suspension has started to bang and knock and make all sorts of noises.

So i changed the top mount bushes and bearings and the drop linqs.

But no change.

So i had 1 last look and found that the rear wishbone void bushes had collapse and was causing the front wishnbone to knock againsed the subframe, also this had been causing the vibration.

I have replaced the whole lower front wishbones which include new front and rear voidbushs and lower ball join.

No knocking and no more vibration.

Though you would all benifit from this info, as i see alot of vibration and knocking problem posts.

You may be my hero...

My steering feels like the wheels aren't connected to it very well, so under acceleration or braking particularly, it just kinda wobbles about (the wheel doesn;'t move, but you can feel the wheels wobbling through it).

I often also get loud clonking noises, and can almost guarantee it if I'm reversing into a parking space (i.e. full lock one way, then the other).

Is this the sort of thing you were getting, as a few months back, I changed my track rod ends, front wishbones as they were both knackered, then about a month later this developed, and it's been driving me mad, just gives me no confidence in corners.

Oh, and I know it's not my brakes, discs, pads or wheels.

Projectx:

what u have said sounds exactly the same as what i have, and also gives me no confidence about driving around corners.

I had that a few months ago, changed wishbones and antiroll bar links, put a new set of alloys on it and its so smooth now, no bumps, squeeks etc...,till yesterday... now the backs started squeeking on the speedbumps and when i get out or in...time to replace the dampers and bushes at the back.

Right, I shall have to have a look into this. As I say, I changed both front wishbone arms, and I think they also came with new bushes, but I'm not sure to be honest. Thanks for the info though, at least I've got a plan now

And just to check, when you say "rear wishbone void bushes"...You mean the bushes at the rear of the wishbones that are on the front of the car, rather than the bushes on any part of the suspension thats on the back half of the car?

If that makes sense

i think you've hit the nail on the head with this 1,i also have the same prob, sometimes when i hold the steering wheel strate the cali wobbloes about a bit,and if i take off fast off the lights its crasy im haveing a fight with the wheel to keep in in a strate line,
"replaced the whole lower front wishbones which include new front and rear voidbushs and lower ball join."

RE: NGK sparkplugs on turbo

i got front wishbones with new balljoints and all the rubber bushes pre installed into them, and the antiroll bar end links both sides for about £50 at the local motor factors, they dont take that long to fit so i wouldnt go to a garage as id be worrying wether theyd done the job properly.
before i had it done if i floored it the car would jiggle from left to right as i accelerated hard ( a bit like ford capris used to )

Coooool, thanks for confirming. I'll get this checked ASAP. I'm having a couple of bits done next week so will probably get it checked then, and report back. Ta

No need to replace the whole arm, you can just replace the bushes.

I found it easyer (lasy) to replace the whoe arm.

1 word of warning though is to be extreamly carefull when putting the rear wishbone bolt/s back in that goes through the subframe and chassis.
As my passengers side stripped the treads clean out when repairing mine.
Only fix was to weld up the hole and drill and retap.

This kind of worries me about doing the repair myself. I am having the same problem, and I'm not good at welding, or re-tapping ANYTHING. BTW, where is a good place to order a set of PU bushings?
