To do or not to do?

by KERR_SE9 » Tue Aug 26, 2014 10:11 pm

Hi folks got a couple of potential track days this week and as my vans out of action I can't use the mg, was thinking of taking the dtm for a blast before it's sorned for winter, but I can't decide...

Should I ,yes or no?

I'll see if I can find my balls and go for it, my tyres are awfully fresh and don't wanna be replacing them!

Yes mate, just been busy with the house. I'm off for the next 3 days if you want to meet up for it.

When I did knockhill that's what I did if you look at a tyre they have a maximum pressure so obviously don't go over that ..... I always blow up spare wheels pretty high for storage and for the track it helps stop the edges of the tyres wearing out. I guess you knew that lol

The best advice I can give you though is pop into Porsche and buy one they took me to knockhill for a private lesson in their car :)

Cheers I will do,as you're right enough as it'll keep the sidewalls from flexing as much, and as for the Porsche maybe one day!

You want more like 25psi cold in the fronts and 28/30psi rears I'd imagine

Not familiar with knockhill but clockwise circuits you want less pressure in the n/s tyres too as they take the load, load means heat, heat means raised pressure.

My Civic had a different pressure in each tyre but all came up to 37psi (+/- 2psi) when hot

Cheers, that's someone saying high and somone saying low,I usually have them all the same in the mg as it handles and it's light,so less scrubbing if the sidewalls, but the calibra isn't gonna be great, I'll start of low and take it from there, although I would assume higher pressure would equate to less flexing of the sidewall thus less scrubbing overall.

Happy to sacrifice these tyres anyway
