An update on my Calibra turbo
An update on my Calibra turbo
It's been a while, but I've been lurking here more recently. So here is a brief update of what I have been doing with my turbo...
On the CC stand at Billing back in 2006:

After that she had her fair share of issues, from smashed wheels, mechanical failure, bodywork damage, and general wear and tear. She looked a bit sorry for herself sitting in my unit:

So I decided I wasn't going to let her go out like that, and started to sort the bodywork. The only real rust was this section in the boot caused by the sunroof drains leaking. Other than that it's a really solid shell:

With fresh paint I really fell in love with her again, she was back to her former glory:

Next was the mechanical issues. I'd been running the C20LET at Phase 3.5 for three years, and it had taken it's toll on the 100k engine, the rattles and knocks were getting louder:

So I decided to do something a little different and install a Saab B204 engine. It was not a fun conversion and I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone
:

After a remap and a custom downpipe I immediately lunched the standard T25 turbo:

So I replaced it with a bigger TD04 19t, and another remap. Very happy with the results, more torque than the C20LET at Phase 3.5 with barely any more lag:

I then immediately lunched the clutch
So I replaced the standard Saab item with a kevlar disc and Sachs uprated plate, which seems to be doing the business thus far:

I also upgraded the brakes using 308mm discs and Ford (I know) Transit twin pot calipers, they really pull the old girl up:

This is how she stands now, quite tidy for her age, and 350lb/ft of torque means she can still look after herself if she has to

You should do it! This just goes to show that if you can get the love back there is still plenty of life left in the old girls, infact I think after 20 years they're really starting to come into their own as a classic

Ahh, I wondered why I was surrounded by shoddy Novas and Corsas!

Your calibra is gorgeous mate!
Was well worth putting her back to better than former glory.
I think the new wheels are class by the way.
I bet people are just itching to get working on theirs after reading this, I know I am.

Not a huge amount to tell really, the discs are Vaux 308mm and the calipers are Ford Transit 3.5 tonne truck. I made up the caliper carrier with some 8mm steel plate.
Not many pics either I'm afraid, here's what I've got:

Re: An update on my Calibra turbo
Updated my headlights to get with the times
Actually someone came blasting past me on the carriageway and flicked a stone up from the central reservation which smashed the glass lense
Managed to find a set of clear lensed angel eye headlights on egay for £75, good price?
Heatgunned the lenses off, sprayed the internals of the standard lights satin black, and bonded the clear lenses on, think it looks pretty mean

Thanks!

It wasn't until I posted it that I realised what a crappy picture I'd taken!
Also I now have a set of angel eye headligts with no lenses if anyone wants them. Might stuff them back on egay if not.

Re: An update on my Calibra turbo

Spraying it black wont affect the Dip and Fog, but your main beam will be worse than a torch.
