Check straps
Check straps
went to Vauxhall today for a replacement as my door is making a hell of a racket when
opening an closing. Guy at Vaux then told me there were early ones and late ones. Thing is he would need the chassis number to determine which one. Now he tells me that you can no longer get the later ones but you can the earlier ones but there are non in the country and anyway they are £43 + vat. So stuff that i will continue with creaking doors and see if replacing the plastic washer helps and tightening the bolt again.
I seem to remember buying one of these for my SE some time ago and only paid about £20. looks like the parts are getting rarer now and going up in price.

Re: Check straps
Old ones are available but the new ones aren't.
On what planet is that a good idea?

Re: Check straps
I had the same problem and got it fixed at my mechanic yesterday. I'll find out what he did if that helps.

Re: Check straps
I got two new washers only last week from Vauxhalls. I'm hoping it will sort out my clicking. Probably wont be fitting them for a few weeks yet though.

Re: Check straps
It's usually just the washer needed, but if its worn through the washer you might also need the bolt aswell.
You should only need the full strap if the door doesnt stay open on its positions.

Re: Check straps
Just an update.
Gave the car a wash today as it has been unusually nice this weekend.
Then decided to fit the new nylon washers to the check strap whilst I was there.
Worked an absolute treat for me!! Door is silent. Why oh why didn't I know about/do this sooner. I had put up with that embarrassing click for years.
Well happy now though. Can't wait for a nice dry spring and summer. Lots of little jobs to do on the old girl.

Re: Check straps
Yep you hear me true. Just always thought it was an awkward or costly job. Seem to remember always reading about the clicking doors but had never read what the solution was so I just put up with it.
To be honest I thought it was the door hinges themselves. Never really looked closely.
And I only average around 2k miles a year in my calibra so it was never a daily annoyance.
Ah well all sorted now & on to the next job......
