Off the road or not?
So the tax is up at the end of the month and I'm not sure whether to take it off the road for the winter or not! I got a work van so I don't need it over the winter but as I experienced last year it doesn't like sitting idle for 6 months
I just begrudge paying for six months tax just to sit in my yard! What should I do?

Tax it and enjoy at weekends when it is dry and sunny! Nothing like starting early on a clear morning and enjoying breakfast at Rykers Cafe (Box Hill), overlooking the sea at Westcliff or wherever is convenient to you.

The only issue with that is that the engine warms up sooooo slowly when idle, so you'll wear the components more than taking it for a short drive, you should in theory only start an engine when you're ready to move off.
They can definately "mank up" (to use a technical term lol) if you leave engines sat too long though. I think i would only classify 4-5months as a long time if you're living in a high humidity area and the cars parked outside.. bodywork also rusts when stationary more.
why not park it up, but treat yourself to one month (as thats the shortest you can tax a car) about half way through winter? just remember to send the tax off for a refund with enough time you dont get charged for a second month. then the car gets its use, you get to save money, and the government are also happy lol.

Yeah I think I'm just gonna tax it and use it whenever I get the chance! When it was off the road the last time I had to strip and free off all the brakes and a few other things before I could take it for it's test, and to be quite frank I just can't be ar**d with all that!
So I will be sending away for my tax this week!
