Bit of info needed

by foxyvaux » Sun Aug 05, 2012 12:54 pm

Hi there, im new to the site and wondered if i could pick a few brains on here.
I currently own a vectra SRi (1999) which to be quite frank ive never really liked much, even though its modded. Its got a re- con engine and is probably going to be broken as its worth more in parts (despite still being mot'd till next year)
Ive decided to buy a 2l Calibra as ive always had a soft spot for them, since driving one a few years ago. I cant seem to find a really in depth article on them though. Id like to get to know the car before i buy one. Prob being a total newbie and not looking in the right place, but does anyone know what faults to look for etc on these cars?

thanks

thanks for the help guys. Im not too bothered about the engine as my re-con one will be going in the calibra. Its the same ecotec one, though ive blinged the vectra's one up a bit. Im more concerened about the bodywork as my vectra is starting to go really badly on the arches (driving me nuts).

this is the engine i.ll be putting in the calibra (the vectra's original one the piston rings went so i sourced this low mileage one off ebay.

thanks for that, really appreciated. its weird really i had less rust on my old "m" reg cavalier than i have on my vectra. Im going to read the guides and make sure i have a good nose around any car i go to see, i hate rust with a passion lol. Thanks for all the useful info. :D

ive just been reading thru the guides and actually found the dreaded TV articles in my mass of magazines (had them since they first came out so forgive me lol)

i know its totally "girlie" but i love the Icelandic blue its just a pity they where 8v's as i really want to swap my engine over (mint no sensor faults etc from the vectra) which is the ecotec 2.0 16v. On looking at the old guides it seems i'd be better buying a later version (as mentioned above) either a SE7 or 8.

Apparently i read about a tickford version anyone got any pics? i know these are like hens teeth though

the engines are easy enough to swap over, I have one and its got the Redtop C20XE in it, so if you really want your engine in an SE6 it can be done .....and its also a late model being a 96

The Tickford is one of the early ones and its not that special, and most are really rusty now ...bit hard to find but they do pop up now and again

Thanks for that Fraz, didnt know how easy/hard it was to swap the engines over. Looks like my engine hoist will be coming back in use, rather than being an ornament in the back kitchen lol

I think a woman with an engine hoist is a very good friend to have :)
