oh dear not looking forward to this mot:)

For all general things Calibra related

oh dear not looking forward to this mot:)

guys ,

im nearing my mot on the se9 at the end of august and im dreading it as I personally think it may have a few bits that will be more than advisories and as ive made a list below what I think it could fail on :

*Suspension dampers worn and the car handles horrible (im very cautious with this at the moment so no heavy driving)
*two new tyres needed for rear of car
*sticky tappet coming from rear bank ( I know this wont make it fail but its damn annoying )
*spring attachment on rear of drivers seat doesn?t open to let passengers in the back
*managed to get the boot lock opened and seems its working fine atm touchwood
*unsure whether the HIDs will pass due to new instructions
*gearbox oil leaking into small pool and staying in recess behind
*slight water leak which is down to oil cooler lid corner (only a seep per week and has been for a while )

Now what im proposing to do if it fails miserably and costs more money to get it sorted then ive decided I will refund the four mths tax back on it ,strip the car apart from engine and shell ,wheels etc and see what monies I can get back from it and at worse case scenario maybe even get it crushed from the same place the tigra went ,I dont really want to crush it but I have tired with calibra ownership now and ive been part of the calibra clubs for the last 9 years and have decided to go to Honda vtec as my next car , im still toying what to go for I dealing a nice integra dc2 would suit me down to the ground but my options will be left open and that?s looking at around end of sept 2012.

If the mot goes well and the calibra lets say just needs minor stuff like two new tyres then I will get them sorted and get a years ticket ,3 months car tax will remain on the car and I will see what I can get for it :

I was looking earlier at pistonheads and theres a se9 on there :

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3991123.htm
now this one looks very standard and just like how mine started off with apart from the standard back box and mine is in a bit worse state but only has 127k (ive only done 20k in four years) :

but this is what mine has :

*hopefully a full years ticket
*will have 3 mths tax left on car
*2.5 v6 24v engine with uprated Vauxhall vectra v6 alloy cam covers (painted in hammer red) & inlet manifold painted in white with oil cap ,waterbottle cap and dipstick
*16”BBS champagne rx4 alloys with 2 new tyres on front , rear two tyres will need replacing very soon ( These are the original alloys that came with the car)
*Flame red , some panels faded but not pink like some models , Colour coded mirrors & bumpers with a few scratches ie stone chips and one mirror has small crack (will need to polish one last time )

*Full black leather with no bolster wear on front seats & rear seat comes with four black leather headrests
*Rear spoiler with brakelight
*Manual (5 speed )
*127+k on mileage (I have only done 20k in the last four years ive owned it)
*Electric windows, Electric heated mirrors, Heated seats ,traction control that works
*HID 6000k xenon headlighting system
*Aircon (will need regassing as over the four years I had it I never got it regassed
*No sunroof due to being 20k lighter
*Japanese style 5” backbox
*Cold air feed intake from airbox for more cold air from front of tow hook cover
*lowered 35-40mm with spax lowering springs ,
*Original Vauxhall mats with red logos
*Calibra v6 stainless steel kickplates down doors
*richbrook Vauxhall alloy tax disc holder
*richbrook titanium handbrake handle & gear gaiter
*chrome gearknob and gaiter
*white battery level, oil temperature gauges & white dash clocks
*fuel computer (7 mode)
*new clutch fitted to car back in 2010 (we took original off and that lasted 14 years
*standard alarm & immobiser
*got 180.4 bhp on the dyno (not bad for a standard setup)

Now ideally I want it to go through the mot and im sure it will or might then I can sell it hopefully to a calibra enthusiast on the sites as I don’t really want to send it to heavon lol but only will do only if it heavily fails as the suspension at the cheapest will set someone back 200 quid , so guys what would you say I could be looking at for one of the last se9s in not bad condition .

It contains loads of pictures and photoshopped pictures of reg plates that i edited

(no wonder it took so long and i guess i just got bored with trying to finish it off)

honestly with an mot i'd say between £700-£900. without an mot £200-£300(scrap value) unless you break it

the one in the pistonheads advert i would say is a bit over-priced, even if it did pass an mot that fact that you have now posted up potential problems with the car it is giving people ammo to drive your price down even more.
BETTER TO HAVE A CALIBRA AND NOT NEED ONE, THAN NEED A CALIBRA AND NOT HAVE ONE!!!

yeah i understand that mate , but i got mine 4 years ago for 1000 as a great deal and the mileage isnt that much that ive done so i know i wouldnt get that back for it anyway and wth the suspension problem which was my fault really has just made things bad and if i had to break it then im sure i can make some money on it ,rareish wheels etc

but thanks ally for the advice cheers

As Ally has said without an MOT it is not going to worth a great deal

breaking it ...well you stay in a flat and have no place to store the car off the road to break it do you ???? cant keep it on the road without tax and no MOT, so will need to be off the road, and the valubale easy to move bit will be the interior and some or the trim and the wheels, BUT you take the wheels off then the car is dead (unless you have some others to put on)

after that you do not have the equipment/ nor know how to get the engine and other bits off

so you may get £100 for interior (maybe a bit more) and the wheels with two knackerd tyres about the same....some smaller parts might get you up to another £100 if your lucky ...then get the rest of car lifted and taken away you may get £200 if your lucky

so about £300 to £400 (depending on how and what you sell of it, and what the breakers give you)

MOT .....about £50
Tyres ....cheap nasty ...£100 for 2 fitted
Suspension ................cheap new or second hand parts about £50

and it may fail on something you know nothing about!!! so to get it through and just tyres and the shocks will be about £200

may as well just try and sell it as spares for about £300 and save yourself all the hassle

oh and on your list of selling points

*2.5 v6 24v engine with uprated Vauxhall vectra v6 alloy cam covers (painted in hammer red) & inlet manifold painted in white with oil cap ,waterbottle cap and dipstick

not everyone wants that, and would rather have it standard, but could be a good selling point ...and are all V6's not a 2.5 with 24V

*16”BBS champagne rx4 alloys with 2 new tyres on front , rear two tyres will need replacing very soon ( These are the original alloys that came with the car)

it kind of need wheels on it...the fact they are the orgional wheels mean nothing

*Flame red , some panels faded but not pink like some models , Colour coded mirrors & bumpers with a few scratches ie stone chips and one mirror has small crack (will need to polish one last time )

all SE9's are flame red ...and the bumpers/mirrors are colour coded on all Calibra's

*Full black leather with no bolster wear on front seats & rear seat comes with four black leather headrests

standard then...with two spare headrests

*Rear spoiler with brakelight

Standard

*Manual (5 speed )

Standard

*127+k on mileage (I have only done 20k in the last four years ive owned it)

means nothing really as it that old it could well have been clocked unless you have proof

*Electric windows, Electric heated mirrors, Heated seats ,traction control that works

Standard

*HID 6000k xenon headlighting system

might be something that will put people off now

*Aircon (will need regassing as over the four years I had it I never got it regassed

standard then...have you had it checked and know for sure its only needing re gassed??....could be any of the other things knackered

*No sunroof due to being 20k lighter

standard for an SE9

*Japanese style 5” backbox

that is not something I would boast about nor would I even advertise it has that

*Cold air feed intake from airbox for more cold air from front of tow hook cover

again may well put people off

*lowered 35-40mm with spax lowering springs ,

but they are knackered

*Original Vauxhall mats with red logos

have two sets here ...not worth anything nor a selling point

*Calibra v6 stainless steel kickplates down doors

so have you had these off recently and cleaned all the crap out from behind them?

*richbrook Vauxhall alloy tax disc holder
*richbrook titanium handbrake handle & gear gaiter
*chrome gearknob and gaiter

would put it all back as it was and sell that lot

*white battery level, oil temperature gauges & white dash clocks

standard

*fuel computer (7 mode)

they are all 7 mode ...why mention it?? and not a great selling point as most would expect it fitted on a SE9

*new clutch fitted to car back in 2010 (we took original off and that lasted 14 years

good selling point as would a good file shown the stuff you have bought to service the car over the years ...do you have that??? aslo wehn was timing belt water pump last changed??

*standard alarm & immobiser

standard

*got 180.4 bhp on the dyno (not bad for a standard setup)

thought you had cold air feed fitted...so not standard !!!
