I think Brians website has gone walkies but sure he is still available on his number, I can pm it if you need it.
As for the boxes its worth doing a search on here, their has been quite a bit of talk about them in the past. Standard box suits me and I wouldnt want to be fitting a locked box personally.

I haver a locked box from Brian at VTS. I got it back in 2006, and I have never had a problem with it, so for my judgement, i think it is good. However on the downside being a 50/50 split in power, it does not grip as good and you cannot launch it as good as a locked box. Thats my opionion, does anyone agree thats had locked boxes? Just out of interest why would you not have a locked box, is it the 50/50 split?

Re: Locked 4x4 VTS transfer box - Calibra Turbo
Personally i thought locked transfer boxes would burn through tyres because each wheel turns at the same speed at all times (50/50 i mean) and when cornering i thought it was better to allow the wheels to turn independantly causing less wear on all components involved.
Think i may have read this somewhere.

oh i c
in that case i dont really see the benefit of a vts locked box
i guess it would take away the whole acumulator bulb thing which is a plus.................

The main benefits of a locked box are that it eliminates the possibility of burning out the TXB clutch due to overload. In particular his means that you no longer have to worry about keeping tyres the same rolling radius. And you don't need to replace the accumulator every 6 years or so to avoid the risk of power steering fluid contamination of the TXB when the diaphragm fails.
It is ironical that a fix for the TXB problems is available now when probably virtually everyone running the few remaining 4x4 Cavaliers and Calibras understands what they need to do to keep the TXB happy.

Brian is still doing the locked boxes, although he's now in Spondon instead of Kegworth if you've not been in a while. I visited him a few days ago in fact as I've just bought a locked box. He says he'll always keep one or two ready as he knows there will always be a trickle of demand.

I know that on some sites are teorically available the accumulator bulbs that must be changed every 6years /60k miles. well, it passed a few months but stock is still zero. I made a full-time job of research on internet, found some accumulator bulb across europe. Some are quite OLD, cause do not still have the white rim on them, it means they have many years of shelf life .
Finally I found a worth one in Finland,in a racing firm, and they kindly gave me the item stamped on accumulator bulb.
by this info I carried out that: the accumulator bulbs are still fresh produced in italy
from where I write,
they are used on BMW series 5-6-7 and Audi quattro too! the same part!!!
they are sold with a distribution box together.
if someone is interested on detailed info, please write me!
ps: i' a calibra owner, not the producer!
producer do not sell to privates (i asked it to be payed by my mechanic)
regards

You can still get new accumulator bulbs in the UK
http://www.cav16.co.uk/prices1.htm#bulb
Incidently, these new ones do not have the white stripe so being all black does not always mean they are old.

The acumulators are made at ATE, in Portugal and Spain we buy from them, dont have the white stripe because only the ones to gm have it. For example, they're also used by bmw in some brake sistems.

Re: Locked 4x4 VTS transfer box - Calibra Turbo
I have the cav16 sports uprated box fitted to mine which came with a new acc bulb when supplied!
Dont know much about the locked boxes but ive always heard they dont switch to 2wd when braking and cos of this it causes the back to step out when braking into corners and makes the handling a bit rough!
Again! i dont know about this bein true but ive read it a fair few times..
I would guess there must be a good reason for the original style box having the acc set up switching the 4wd drive off when braking for them to make it that way
