Does this sound like knackered CV ?
Strong Steering judder through front steering wheel between 55-65. Increasing and peaking at 60
Changed all wheels and tyres, no difference at all.
Braking does not increase judder
Nearside CV Gaitor boot leaking also, was reclipped, and sealed then came off again.
ABS started dysfunction at same time as CV gaitor leak.
No clunking that ive noticed when turning though
Does that sound like CV for sure ? Also how do you know which side is done in ?

Re: Does this sound like knackered CV ?
would not say it sounds like a cv at all.
more likely steering/suspension parts..
try to get it up in the air supported well, and give the wheel a good tug about to check for play in the wheel bearing (left/right and up/down) shock absorber or control arm balljoint/bushes(just up/down) trackrod ends (just left/right) etc etc

Thanks for the diagnostic info..
One front shocks done at offside, so ill replace the two and try all that testing. Probably one of those interaction of two problem things. Such as the offside shock in conjunction with something where the gaitor keeps coming of at Nearside.

Re: Does this sound like knackered CV ?
resurrecting this thread as i still haven't cured the problem after replacing the wheels, front shocks and springs.
A previous member posted up what looked like a very good diagnosis list for judder here.
=========================
non-drivetrain issues:
1. wheels not balanced right
2. bent rims
3. flatspots on tires or tires gone eggshaped
4. warped discs
5. something could be wrong with the wheel bearing or housing - hardly probable.
drivetrain issues
1. inner CV joint(s)
2. gearbox engine mount gone or needs tightening
3. either of shafts somehow gone out of balance - not probable.
4. something gone out of balance inside the gearbox/front differential - not probable.
front wheel balance issues cause the car and the steering wheel to vibrate, but the steering wheel strong tendency to turn in one direction and then another is obviously felt and distinguished from the general juddering sensation when holding the steering wheel.
front wheel balance issues usually start happening even before 60mph, something like 50mph is usually the peak.
rear wheels balance issues start usually a bit higher than front (60mph+) - they dont cause the steering wheel to move. they rather cause vibration throughout the car felt nicely through the seat and other parts.
drivetrain issues also vibrate/judder the entire car, mostly the front part. juddering is felt through the steering wheel, acceleartor pedal and mostly the lower front part of the chassis where the gearbox is mounted. also, pressing the clutch makes it go away.
drivetrain juddering also appears at 60mph.
warped discs issues is obvious as the vibrations increases greatly when applying brakes.
keep in mind - bent rims can balance out fine on the balancing machine, but they're still bent and will judder just the same.. just like tires with flatspots or tires that have gone eggshaped

Re: Does this sound like knackered CV ?
Ok..
its not balance as it starts at 55 and peaks at 60. And i replaced all the wheels/tyres anyway..not spigots...standard wheels.
Its not discs as braking doesn't make any difference.
not a rear end issue as its only thru the steering wheel.
Not shocks, shock mounts and springs, as were just replaced. All standard suspension on the car.
its not drivetrain or cv joints as its still there if you press the clutch. Is that diagnostic part of the above checklist right ?
Well if it is, it helps eliminate all the drivetrain points.
Have just notice a slight clunk when on extreme lock...so this is either ball joint or CV going ?
But ball joints are not in the diagnostic list, and if it was CV then the judder would go when clutch is depressed.
So everything has been eliminated from what looks like a well thought out diagnostic list.
am confused.com....any ideas ?

rty getting the tracking checked as this can also cause this , i know it sounds stupid but for some reason it can

Re: Does this sound like knackered CV ?
i had this same problem months ago had brand new wheels put on but after a while felt the vibration at 60mph turns out one of the alloys had a tiny bend in it and the balance was out a tiny bit.........put the best 2 alloys on the front and rebalanced them and bingo all fixed

the tracking is out a little bit, but i never heard of small misalignmnent causing judder,

Re: Does this sound like knackered CV ?
if its going away above a certain speed that is usually the balancing, but could be anything that will throw the balance out, incorrect tyre pressures are they directional tyres if so are they pointing the correct way a faulty tyre usually cheap one but can also be the most expensive ones, wear it the wheel bearing, slighlty buckeled wheel or even a slight ding on the rim, worn suspension bushes, top strut monut
I would start by swapping the wheels round front to back and see what happens before you stripping things down

Re: Does this sound like knackered CV ?
are they standard rims or aftermarket which may require spigots?
