can some tell me if there is an easy way to find out if i need to replace
an abs sensor or the control unit.
the problem im having is : some times not all the time the abs light comes on, if i switch the ignition off the light goes off and stays off.
also some times when i press the brake the pedal seems to give a little, what i mean is : the brake pedal is pressed and is firm under foot but then
it suddenly drops some more.
ive got quotes for sensors from vauxhall £62 ea
but the pump is £616 + vat
i have found a pump on ebay for £45 recon.
id like to find out what the cause is before i start spending
thanks in advance for your help.

Hi you can read the codes on most if not all. im not sure which.
if you do a search on here for whats called the paperclip test, it involves shorting out a couple of pins and reading a diagnostic code..
its pins A and K i believe for abs
codes are
16 LH Front Solenoid ( Relay & Connections )
17 RH Front Solenoid ( Relay & Connections )
18 Rear Solenoids ( Relay & Connections )
19 Solenoids Relay Circuits
25 Faulty Sensor toothed Ring
35 Pump Relay Circuits
37 Stop Lamp Switch ( Pedal Switch )
39 LH Front Speed Sensor ( Air Gap & Operation )
41 LH Front Speed Sensor ( Resistance & Connections )
42 RH Front Speed Sensor ( Air Gap & Operation )
43 RH Front Speed Sensor ( Resistance & Connections )
44 LH Rear Speed Sensor ( Air Gap & Operation )
45 LH Rear Speed Sensor ( Resistance & Connections )
46 RH Rear Speed Sensor ( Air Gap & Operation )
47 RH Rear Speed Sensor ( Resistance & Connections )
48 System Voltage High/Low ( Alternator & Battery )
55 Faulty ECU

paper clip test, thats a bit technical for me lol.
under hard braking i dont think it stops as it should, i have got new discs
to put on, its just the abs light that worries me.
ive just checked the last mot from the previous owner
its got an advisory for a slightly corroded rear brake line
could this be the cause?
