Ignition amplifier - possible prob?

by sinbrad » Mon Aug 11, 2008 2:12 pm

Ok guys, on another thread I've gone on about the loss of power to my V6. Have done a search on the forums to see if I can get any other possible probs. One that stuck out was the Ignition amplifier. If this was faulty would it cause the car to lose it's power? I won't go into the symptoms as they are listed on the other forum. Have replaced the MAF and also the plug leads, plugs and lastly today, changed the injectors. All to no avail, still no power? Can't rule out anything else as I'm at a complete loss?

doubtful most faults with the amplifier have been non starting issues, and its been sudden ...as in worked fine then died...though anything is possible

By 'ignition amplifier' do you mean the coil?

The V6 uses a ignition amplifier which powers the DIS coil pack.

So basically it either works or doesn't? If it were defective I take it the car wouldn't start in the first place? If that's the case the car starts, it's after that the problems start?

your right...my mistake

when I brought the SE2 out the garage after its winter break ..it also ran lumpy, and that was the amplifier

and to make it worse...Aldos V6 was running on 4 or 5 cylinders

changed the coils, leads and lots of other stuff...spent a small fortune, for it to be a £26 amplifier

so yes I would try one...see what happens

The amp runs on three channels therefore you could be 2 banks down and running like a dog.

Hopefully that will be my prayers answered and it turns out to be the amp. Now the stupid question, I read that it's behind the battery. Can someone please give me a guide or even a photo of the hopeful culprit? Where's the best place to source one. Not got anyone near me that could let me borrow one so it's gonna have to be a purchase? Is the £26 quoted for a new one?

cheers

Any idea where to get it? If it's a case that VX don't believe it exists then I'm better looking elsewhere but where exactly is my question. Is there a part number. Also any phot's of the amp in situ?

If you get stuck, I have a spare ignition amp and a spare coil pack. I've known both to fail on mine in the past hence why I have spares ready and waiting :)
