Eletric window problems...

by mattm541 » Tue Apr 22, 2008 8:09 pm

Hi guys,

Firstly i have done a search, and have found some information, but nothing that actually answers my question.

Basically for the last few months my passenger side window hasnt worked off the button. Fair enough - i can live with that. Today however, my drivers side window started playing games with me.

Firstly without any warning at all, i couldnt get the window back up. I opened the drivers door and then it worked. I decided to pull the fuse to see if that would cure the problem, which in a way it did. I can now open the window with the door closed as normal, However, i am now getting constant power to the window switches when the ignition is off and the doors are locked... ie - i can still open the window and they are illuminated. Heres a little history about my mysterious windows, last year the passenger window decided to open and close its self at 3am in the morning. Since then the passenger window has not worked, now im having problems with the drivers side too.

Any help greatly appreciated.

By the way, i have the blue led window switches...

Have you tried changing the window switches?. I think these often play up also check the wiring from the car to the door for any broken wires

Yeah last week i tried replacing the switches, in the hope that i would get the passenger window working. But out of the 3 sets i tried, none of them worked the passenger window. I havnt tried new switches since, but ill have a go tommorrow and see what happens.

the fact that your drivers window worked when you opened the door seems to suggest as Sean states that there is more than likely a broken wire in the loom in the door post

Yeah that makes sense. But since pulling the fuse, it now works with the door shut as normal. It even works when the keys are not in the ignition and the cars locked...

I think the window system is also connected to the central locking system. If you turn the key in the door for 2 secs the window closes so maybe there is a problem with the central locking relay?. inside the kick panel on the drivers side

its a feature that the window feed will stay live for a few minutes once the door is closed, and will also work without the igntion on and the door open ...but only with the drivers door being open

FIrst thing I would be changing is the relay

Well when the passenger window failed on me, that is how i got it back up, by using the key. But now that doesnt even work, i tried it on the drivers window just now. Ill replace the relay and let you all know what happens.
