C20LET Alternator

Any electrical issues

by Callyman » Wed Mar 12, 2008 9:22 am

Went to do that very thig last night mate and the battery was total flat, managed to get a bosch part number of it and ordered this one last night 370031548838, its a direct replacement, so i know its the right one. I know you said about extending a spanner? is there anything else i need to know before fitting it? i.e. what do i need to remove? air box for one i'd guess.

yes its easier with the airbox out of the way, the long spanner you'll need to reach the auto tensioner, I doub't you'll reach with a standard spanner or have the leverage, the rest is pretty simple, may need a long extension bar for your socket to get at the bottom bolt of the alternator, failing all that I could always do it for you but that would mean driving to me

Thanks for the advice and kind offer Andy will hopefully be getting it tomorrow, so will have a go at the weekend. Ive done pretty much all you can think of on cars in the past (when it was easy) just wanted to know if theres anything tricky on it.

I wouldn't say tricky as such just a bit awkward

it will be the new type so that's ok but I'm sure the turbo is the 100A one especially if you've got a/c

Mine is 70A and non a/c. I did see some 100A ones on fleabay but this one i ordered matches my part number so i have the peace of mind it's the right one.....still striving to keep her standard Andy......resisting temptation is getting hard tho.

no problems then, mine has a/c hence the 100A, but you can also get a 120A too

Yes my SE9 was 120.

Hope the weather picks up a bit, dont fancy getting a wet back. As the A'nator is near the top of the engine is the fitting all done from the engine bay?

Yes Andy it came thursday and i fitted it sat morning, took me about hour n a bit, and I did lose some skin, but not alot of blood
Still not charged the battery yet (still using GF's megane) so don't know if it's cured the drain problem. Have ran it tho, and it's kicking out 14.8V and 14.4 loaded, so allis charging ok. I also got my outside Temp working, just by unplugging the display and plugging back in.

Thanks Boost, Although i still think im losing current somewhere, left the car for 24 hours over the weekend and it turned over pretty slow this morning. Thinking starter motor next. When i do a current drain test on the battery i get 0.08 amps, and im pretty sure that wouldnt make any noticable difference to it, not in 24 hours anyway.
