I need to source one of these is it best buying brand new or be ok getting a 2nd hand one.

Having just replaced both wishbones and bushes due to the bushes being completely knackered and causing a loud knocking noise, that knocking noise has been hiding the knocking coming from the driveshaft.

Also when changing wishbones noticed that my tyres are splitting around the side wall, the rubber is being torn apart and looks like someone has taken a knife to the inside of them. No wonder the wheel and tyre package was so cheap, probably £20 tyres.

Cheers robbie, do you think it's best to source a new driveshaft or use a 2nd hand one.

I would try to source a new one but a second hand one would suffice.

Think i'll go for a new one, at the bottom of the page you linked to the bottom driveshaft looks unused but have sent the person an email to find out.

Cheers for your help.

In the end the driveshaft is not the source of the knocking, the ring nut has come fully loose and the shock is being hit by the housing. So i've got to try and nurse it for 80 miles over the next 2 days until i can get it in the garage.

i had this problem after i done the arb links and wishbones on my 16v and it turned out that my steering rack had a slight bit of play in it.

Got it booked in for friday, so hopefully it will just need tightening and it hasn't knackered the threads.

All these things start goin wrong one after the other, first bushes gone on wishbones then tyres falling apart and now ring nut coming loose.

Managed to pick up a good deal off ebay, got 2 new yokohama parada tyres 215/40/17 for £116 normally about £90 a tyre.

if the king nut has come loose it will more than likely have damaged the wheel bearing, if I was you I wouldn't drive it at all as you may well damage the hub as well

why are you looking for a driveshaft? sounds to me like you just need a new CV joint

I thought at first it was the driveshaft but took it to a local garage who diagnosed shock insert nut loose. It's survived 2 days off getting to work and back and it's going in 2moro.
