Changing Breaks On a Calibra DTM

by Gigabite » Wed Dec 19, 2007 2:45 pm

Hi,

Complete newbie here - looking to purchasing Callybens Calibra DTM at the weekend. As the car has been standing for 2 years I am going to need to change the disc and pads.

Can anyone give me a quick, couple of step guide to how to do it.

I know for most of you this is probably easy but I want to start learning and save money on labour costs.

Thanks In Advance
Chris

chris mate they are very easy mate , get a haynes manual , when you see the calipers they are straight forward, undo the slider bolts and the caliper lifts off
and the rear there is two pins which get knocked out and the pads slide out
as i said mate get a manual you will find it will help :D

Thanks very much - I am going to do it on Sat afternoon.

Also going to attempt to replace the engine mount that needs doing, but have a feeling that may be a little more difficult than the discs and pads!?

Also can you let me know how difficult it is to do a coolant service and change filters - going to try and have a very productive weekend :)

which mount chris
flush
once emptied get a hose and flush it through
but do it when the engine is cold
put 2.5 ltrs of antifreeze in , then put around 2ltrs of water in and then another 1 ltre of antifreeze, then top up with water run engine with expansion lid off untill radiator fan cuts in then refill tank to level, replace tighten lid,
air filter in air box, two clips and two screws
fuel filter beside petrol tank, two jubilee clips
oil filter drivers side on engine , take off drivers wheel , and you will see it through wheel arch
hope this helps mate

just use the brakes.. they'll soon clean up, i doubt they need replacing unless they're damaged at all.. surface rust won't take many miles to clean up.

If the car has been stood around for a while then a blow torch is a must if you're gonna be doing bits yourself... I found this made a load of jobs a hell of a lot easier lol...

A haynes manual will be almost all you need...

With the help of one ive changed my sump, aux belt, oil and oil filter, coolant, suspension, handbrake and will be doing my brakes soon, although Ive dont brakes before on other cars so already have a good idea what im doing...

All the stuff your carrying out is very easy if your good with a spanner. Your in the right place for any info you need.

Good luck with the new purchase, I put a few hours into rebuilding the top end
