Parked on a hill today, nose facing up, pulled on the handbrake and it started to roll
backwards. Got home and put the handbrake on and then tried reversing. It was as if
the brake wasn't on at all.
Looks like i've now got to get under the car and readjust it. hope it does't rain and
i hate getting under cars

When you do go under the car, check the mounting point towards the centre to see if it's pulled away from the floor, mine had last year so there was next to no tension in the cable.
I hate trying to adjust the handbrake as I can never seem to make it any better, especially that annoying adjuster wheel/cog that you have to try and turn through the little hole in the hub - unless I'm missing some obvious technique it's a PITA!

Yep the pin had come out the hole where its rotted. re did putting the pin through
the spring into the backplate and through one of the caps from the newer models spring
placed behind the backing plate. Holds firmly now and also gave the the cable a little tighten as well
as it had loosened a little from the last adjustment.

a technique for adjusting the rear handbrake is as follows
jack the car up at the rear, remove both road wheels, take off the handbrake, using the adjuster inside the drum adjust the parking brake so it locks both drums, next crawl under the car and adjust the handbrake cable so the handbrake will move 5 or 6 notches when applied, then go back to the drums and slacken the adjuster off one or two turns so both will move freely, replace road wheels job done

I seriously need to get mine sorted out, if im parked on a hill I have to leave it in gear just to be 100% the callys there when i get back and not at the bottom of the hill... counted the clicks the other day... 12... that cant be good...
I will have to get under the car and get it sorted, hope its as easy job, although I had noticed in my service history that it had adjustments made a few years back and only cost £30 to do, however thats a fair bit of money for what is done... and with todays prices of labour I expect that would be more like £60 lol
