I'd say yes without seeing it

It has to be close to the ignition barrel area to function, it's an easy way to get a new 'non' chipped key to work, although makes it alot easier to pinch.

Yep probably if it's a little black rectangular cube then its the chip from the key, i have seen them when i took one of my keys apart

hmm, yeh... i was worried it would be. didn't know these things existed till i was going though some old threads on mig with similar probs to what im currently having. then i realised my key has a hole in it, with nothing in it. and last week when a mate was looking at my car, and said.. oh look whats this box dangling here for? i took it off and bought it in to look up the part number... then i thought oh i wonder why this tape os wrapped around it.... unwrapped it then thought.... why on earth would someone tape a bit of plastic to it? then um, yeh.. well the bin came in handy

bugger, tbh i think if i didn't know what it was i would of probably done the same

only other option would be to get some keys cut from vauxhall but that could be expensive and they would only be able to do it if the original lock sets are on there rather than new ones (maybe able to get you the chip for them)

looks like i'll have to give vauxhall a call then!

dont suppose theres anyway of bypassing it? coz i dont even know if the car will work even if i had it atm!

yes i think you can run a wire to bypass the imobiliser, but i wouldn't know at what point to connect it too or where, someone else might know though, sorry not very good with electrics

so if the bit taped to the receiver thing wasn't the chip, and my key is broken and empty, and theres nothing taped to my ecu... where is the chip?

it will have been the chip or it will never have started, i was referring to just slapping a wire in somewhere to get it started
