Anyone had any experience of fault code 49?

Battery Voltage High?

Eml is on, but battery light behaves as normal.

You need to test the car ASAP with a multimeter to verify it is over-charging the batt. using it like this could damage electrical systems, so don't use it if you don't have to. The problem will be the voltage regulator on the alternator, so a replacement alternator is the easiest route.

Thanks Stu.

Just Checked it, When ticking over it shows 18 volts, rev up a bit shows 19!
So Overcharging.

Another Wallet hole then.

Any way of telling which alternator i might have, before i remove it? 110 or something?

The only importance is the belt pulley as far as i know, I think the others 90/120amp etc are all interchangable?? so just get the highest rating you'll need. I have a feeling late turbo's were all 120amp wide belt pully though, and the poxy early ones a pewny 70amp V belt. what year is yours?

92 J reg.

120 sounds good though,
what With heated seats going etc.
Then for the dreaded mot!

Why do these things go wrong in the winter!

you'll have the Vbelt 70amp then, it mounts differently also, so you'll probbaly need another the same, or look to modify a 120 which have the wide belt.
I found my 70amp ok when I had a Jplate, but I never had any aftermarket sound or anything like that. and rarely used the heated seats etc.

Could be regulator that controls voltage sent to battery and car
