My Calibras New Game

Morning All,

Had an interesting problem at the weekend. Heading down south to see some mates, and on the way there hit some nasty rain. Put my lights on and after a while noticed my full beam was on. Figured i'd knocked it, so just switched it off. Noticed a while later it was back on. Weird.

Anyway, that night went out for a meal, only drove a short way but it seemed ok. But on the way back up north on sunday night (raining again), i noticed that nearly everytime i indicated to switch lanes my full beam went on and blinded the poor bugger in front. After about 120 miles (and after the rain had stopped) i worked out that if i pulled the stalk towards me slightly, then indicated, then slowly released it, it was ok. I could hear the switch in the stalk clicking, almost as if the switch inside had somehow moved.

This seems intermittent as it was ok this morning...could it be that the switch has somehow moved within the stalk? (when the problem appears, if i nudge the stalk forward slightly i hear the click and my full beam comes on) or maybe some water leaking in (though i don't see how)?

Thoughts/suggestions welcome

Try swapping the stalk with one from any Astra Mk3 or Cav. Pennies in the scrapyard and takes about 2 minutes to remove!

yes easy to have a nosey there, there are two screws that hold the cowl round the steering wheel, turn the wheel to the left, unscrew one then turn the other way and unscrew, then cowling is just clipped together underneath, the stalks just pop out

Don't be tempted to open the indicator stalk, it's full of tiny pieces of magic

i see, so just a straight swap is the best bet then, so i guess the micro-switches are in the stalk then?

Well thats answered the question as to the problem i had going to and from wales this weekend. Exactly the same full beam flicking on and off when indicating even flicked on a couple of times when i went over bumps in the road. Nearly caused full on road rage indicated to change lanes full beam flicked on and off a few times guy in front thought i was flashing him out of the way Pulled up alongside me as i moved back into the middle lane made various hand gestures and probably quite a few swear words. you cant really explain that youve got a faulty switch whilst travelling at 70+ on the m-way
