Trip computer - Switch problem

Any electrical issues

by calibra » Sat May 01, 2004 1:35 pm

Hello

I have installed a trip computer in to my cally 16v Ecotec

The computer is wired in to the dash board and seems to be working.

I am now trying to wire the switch in. I have read the guide on this site, and the information explains the the switch needs to be plugged in to a big long white block under the hand break next to where the electric windows are plugged in too.

I am unable to plug it in, because there is no wiring looms the other side of the block

Did vaux cable tie that up too somewhere?.

Patience young student. . . :-)

what year cally you got mate?

This is what it looks like under my centre console, taken last year..

I've got the switch hidden under the console at the moment, haven't got comp fitted right now.

i pulled that switch to plug the fuel computer switch in, but the one you take out is male and the fuel computer is female!

If I remember rightly, the actual switch plugs in the 'back' of the block, not the bit that's circled (that's the wiring going to the car's loom). I'll try and remember to pop the cover off and have a look . . .

switch plugs in underneath from the other side, by the coin holder , goes into the plug that you can see underneath the plastic and metal bits on the drivers side.

so the plug on the switch doesn't plug directly into the white one that is circled? i can't see how it can, as the white plug has 4 prongs on one side and one on the other, and switch plug has 3 and 3 down each side!somebody explain in detail, car in bits!!

No, as Rog said, it goes into it from the other side (from further under the handbrake, then the metal clamp thing puts them together.

Sorry if that pic is misleading but it was originally to show what to look for to see if someone had the wiring in place to fit a trip comp switch to..

so the switch plug goes in from way back on the right hand side, and doesn't actually come in contact with the prongs on the white plug, correct?

yep, from memory, sorry Tattoman I didn't get time to take a photo with the 'rear' of it showing.

From what I can remember the switch plugs into the nasty yellow colour 'block' as it has the holes for the various switches (electric windows etc), so the electric window module switch is plugged in behind there as well.

I had to unscrew the handbrake console so I could lift it enough to get the switches in, tho you might be able to 'persuade' it without doing that..

ARGH!!!! SCARY!

ah, yes. I'm pretty sure the carlton one has different connections, from what I read prior to gettting mine on ebay (there were a few comps without switches around at the time).
There's one on e-bay at the moment... <a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10404&item=2478825826&rd=1" target="_blank">HERE</a>

Does your existing one look like <a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10404&item=2478826335&rd=1" target="_blank">THIS ONE</a> ?

bugger!! and the comp wasn't even won by the same bidder..

£20 is a bit steep just for the switch isn't it? I didn't think they were that much more expensive from a vaux dealer.
