finally found the cause of the clunking

by johnny_adidas » Wed Jun 21, 2006 10:53 pm

finally got around to changing the front brakes on the car and discovered what had been causing the clunking/knocking noise at low speeds/turning. basically i can move the hub/brake disc/wheel just by tugging at them. the whole lot moves from hub back to just behind the outer cv joint. any ideas what needs to be changed? is it the strut? have a quick video of the movement. and 2 pics of the area in question.

it takes a min or so to load the video. apologies for the size. would be great if someone could give me an answer by the morning as ill need to either order it or if too expensive look for a part from a breakers who ill never get a quick answer from.

ya just been told thats what it is. looking at how i can change it now. hoping a hammer will take it out for me and then ill use a bar and wwashers as haynes suggested. otherwise ill need to take the strut to someone to get it out and press the new one.

you need to get the new one pressed in anyway so save yourself the trouble and get it removed at the same time
