as far as i know you need some sort of chip programmed to work with the fuel comp.

speak to fraz or tim2001 as they told me, check this thread http://www.clubcalibra.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19483

hope that helps.

They normally are, tho if the chip in it has been programmed for a different setup (engine, wheel size etc etc) then it will need reprogrammed before any of the speed/consumption figures etc will be close. That's easily done tho, just send the chip off to get it reprogrammed (it just clips out of the back of the unit in a white plastic holder).
Longest part of fitting one of these is normally finding where the Vaux fitters hid the yellow plug!

your car should have the wires there..did you have a D.I.D before ?

if so the temp and clock will still work, I would check you have the yellow plug fully home as its a tight fit sometimes

How it works out the miles etc ..it uses the fuel gauge sensor to know how much fuel you have, then it uses the speed signal from your abs to get your speed.

it can then work out your average speed and fuel consumption over the last 10 miles , depending on your speed and the way you have driven it Can then work out the distance in Miles you have with the amount of fuel in your tank....clever wee bugger ..when it works
