<!--QuoteBegin-AndiSe5+--><div class='quotetop'>(AndiSe5)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->So i had 1 last look and found that the rear wishbone void bushes had collapse and was causing the front wishnbone to knock againsed the subframe, also this had been causing the vibration.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

How do you check the wishbone void bushes? As posted <a href="http://www.clubcalibra.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8056&page=1&pp=20" target="_blank">here</a>, I've been having wobbly wheel syndrome, plus the occasional banging from (what seems to be) the rear driver's side when I drive over a bumpy road - at low speed.

I've just booked to get the wheels balanced agin, but maybe this banging means that something more serious is the problem.

After nearly a year of trouble-free motoring, I hope this isn't the start of another bout of having to go back to the garage every other week ...

U can put a large pry bar between the chassis and the wishbone.

If there is exsessive play they could be nakered, also look for the actual bush comming away from the wishbone.

had mines start a very severe wobble this weekend , though had notice the steering with a bit of vibration for a few weeks.

checked everything out and after jacking car up and getting someone to actually drive the car in gear ..found that the wheel bearing was the cause

just thought you might want to check that out as well

had no noise from the wheel bearing just a wobble developed after hitting a pot hole

Well, I took it into a garage this morning to get the wheels balanced. Asked them to check the bushes too - and sure enough the front bushes are peeling away from the wishbone.

The chap told me that (a) he'd have to replace the entire wishbones, not just the bushes, and ( that Calibra wishbones are the same as Vectra ones, so he could use those.

Is that correct about the Vectra wishbones? Hmmmm ….

Dnt use vecta ones, stay safe and keep to the cally wishbones.

But u can just replace the bush, not worth doing in my oppinion, just get 2 new wichbones as ther pretty cheap.

And I thought I was the only one !

When I hoofed it in 3rd the front end did a waltz - had links done etc - better now - but still a bit iffy.
Need to have a serious look.
Have a good 'un

Wobbly steering can also be caused by worn CV joints. It usually happens at a constant speed and will worsen when taking long sweeping bends at speed. If it dissapears when taking left hand bends then it'll be on the left hand driveshaft (and vice-versa).

The same can be said for wheel bearings. But they usually make a rumbling sound that is relative to your speed (like bad tyre/road noise).

Steering wobbling and vibration can also be caused by a worn bearing in the longerdrive shaft of the 16V (may only be XE's though). The bearing carrier is bolted onto the back of the block on the offside (drivers side).

It's not always as cut and dried as that though. Without doing some investigstion you can only speculate.....

I had a bad vibreation on my eco between 50-65 mph. Someone on here told me it was the wishbones. MOT 2 days ago failed on one wishbones but i replaced both now the vibration starts at 70 and goes to 85 mph. Out of the 4 wheels on the car i have only had one front one balanced myself do you reckon its worth getting the other 3 done. As i say its just past mot so i presume everthing else is in order.

As you can see from my other post I had the same sort of problems. Bought new wishbones off of fleebay for £24 plus p&p for a pair. Had them fitted in less than two hours and all symptoms have disappeared, that's the clanking noise and steering wobble. Also found that one of my rear alloys was a little out of shape so was probably attributing to the slight wobble. Got all four wheels balanced and put rear onto front and vica versa, no more wobble, no more clanking noise. But the rear subframe bushes were a little squished and are being replace when they arrive in the post.

Been there , done that
Sounds exactly like what happens with me (tho strangely recently it's not been as pronounced. It was getting really bad, so I've consciously slowed myself down!)
Nice one Andi, sounds like you've given a lot of people a good place to fix a problem.
