Afterburner ABS problem
Today i fitted my afterburners using the interface so that they are legal. I have a problem in that when i have the lights on the ABS light will come on leaving me with no ABS, if they are off however the ABS works fine (obviously after restarting the engine so that the ABS is rechecked) These are my checks to see what situations ahd which result.
Both afterburner clusters- lights off = ABS, lights on = no ABS
Both original clusters- ABS
No clusters at all- No ABS
Left Afterburner + right original- ABS
Right Afterburner + left original- ABS
Left afterburner only- No ABS
Right afterburner only- No ABS
Left original- ABS
Right original- ABS
Both afterburners is the only situation where the ABS being on or off is dependent on the lights being on or off. When the lights are off the ABS works, as soon as the lights are switched on the light on the dash appears and the wheels will lock up under hard braking.
All functions of the lights are working (indicators, reverse, fog, brake lights with lights off, brake lights with lights on)
As i have used old light plugs to wire them up, on the left Afterburner the redundant wire is the fog light wire (not connected to interface). And on the right hand cluster it is the reverse wire left unused.
Any ideas at all anyone????
Regards David

Hi David,
I've not had chance to check the circuit yet, but let me assure you that if we can't sort the problem out over the phone/internet I will gladly have your interfaces back and test them out to see if they are at fault.
I have sold more than thirty sets of Afterburner Interfaces and yours is the only one that exhibits this fault.

Just had a thought....
You told me that your 'lamp check' connector is not plugged into your clocks.
What if the ECU is putting a voltage out to illuminate the 'lamp fail' light, but you have not got your lamp check circuit connected. Where is that voltage going? It could be travelling through the loom and causing problems with the ABS ECU.
One way to try this is to re-fit your OE light clusters and then remove a bulb to try to illuminate the 'lamp fail' light. If your ABS stops working, then that is what your problem is.
I'm sure it's got something to do with your lamp check circuitry.

Hello,
Im experiencing exactly the same problem (have done since about Christmas) When the lights are off, everything works fine and ABS works. But when I switch my lights on the ABS warning light on the dash fires up and I can lock the wheels up.
I to have the Afterburners with Interfaces. But to be honest it doesn't really bother me that much, although I would like to know why its doing it?
The only thing with mine is, is that the engine management light keeps on coming on as well, which I haven't had time to sort as a new engine is going in soon.
I thought I just needed a set of those Load resistor things, but by the sounds of it maybe not....

I don't know if it makes any difference but I see you have an 8v, mine too is an 8v... Could just be coincedence I know.
To be honest I actually prefer it without the ABS, as i've been used to Nova's without it for years. But i've heard a rumour that if the light is continually on it can upset the ECU...... don't know how much truth there is in this though???

It's got me foxed!
If you send them back to me I will test them to make sure everything is OK.
What I can't get my head round is.... If it's something to do with the interfaces, then how come removing the OE clusters causes an ABS fault?
BTW Martin on CC has an 8V and his interfaces work OK. So it's nothing to do with model.
