Programable intermitant wiper

Is it possible, by changing a relay, that you can have a programable intermitant windscreen wiper setting? I think I saw something ages ago about this. Think it was a VW relay.
Any ideas anyone?

yup got one in mine and works just fine

you need a relay from a Golf (though you might find any VW has one)

serial number are (and might have 99 on the Top)
357 955 531
357 955 537
3B0 955 531 and 1HM 955 531A (531B and C don't seem to
be programmable!!!)

I think you hold down the wiper stalk for so many seconds to program the relay

Yep, found this on cavweb -

This is a little trick to convert:
Calibra, Cavalier/Vectra, MK2 and MK3 Astra
intermittent wipers delay from constant into programmable by Mikel Martin.
A friend's 1993 Golf GTI's
intermittent wipers work as follow:
You put the wipers in intermittent position. The windscreen is cleaned once.
You switch them off. A counter starts.
Now you wait until the windshield is full of rain again and switch
intermittent wipers on again. The counter stops and the time is stored
somewhere.
From this moment, the interval of the wipers is equal to the time that was
stored previously.
All this functionality is performed by a "quite intelligent" relay
which is
fully compatible with the one that controls intermittent wipers in my 1990
Cav3/Vectra B (but not my father's 1999 one). You have only to get a Golf's
relay
and replace the original. This relay is in the fuse box. You can identify it
easily because when intermittent wipers are on, its sound and movement can
be detected by putting a finger on it. Golf's relay serial number is 357 955
531. I've read that other relays from other Volkswagen cars work as well.
The part numbers are: 3B0 955 531 and 1HM 955 531A (531B and C don't seem to
be programmable!!!)
