Racks interchangeable?

I have a ZF rack on my Cally Turbo (1993) which has decided to go wrong:mad:

I ordered a Saginaw square one from Westeren Power Steering but my local mechanic and my local Part Co say these two types are not interchangeable.

Anybody changed one for the other before I get my mechanic to stip my old one out and then realise, as he says, that they can't be swapped over.

Do a search on here for ZF, I have posted part no of an interchangable rack in the past. but i cannot remember what it is now.

Rusty but just painted over, hadn't even put new bolts etc on it, and all the paint started peeling off in my hands when I picked it up:no:
