Can prevent accidents, but agreed can also contribute towards them.
My wife was in a shunt in he 05 Meriva - in the wet. A pedestrian jumped out onto a zebra crossing, the car in front did an emergency stop, the wife hit the brakes, and also a drain cover. ABS kicked in, Missus couldnt retreive it and without locking up, she 'rolled' into the car in front, with the ABS pulsing and pushing against the brake pedal. She said if the ABS hadn't been interfering she would have stopped in time.
ABS is more useful at higher speeds, IMHO.

Oh Bugger - I hope No-ones going to be upset with me. Upon removing my 140 clocks to instal my new 160 clocks I noticed the ABS bulb missing!
I know there's a fault - there's bound to be.
Dilema is do I take out the bulb on the new dash and remove the ABS fuse, Or do I leave the bulb in and Add another Job to next months MOT list?
Wish I never looked now!
If I take the bulb out on the new clocks will anyone mind?

No ABS light will fail the MOT for any car fitted with ABS, AND it must follow the correct extinguishing sequence. All MOT centres have a big chart listing all cars fitted with ABS and their "time to extinguish" the warning light and whether the ignition needs to be turned on etc etc. An MOT tester will refer to this chart if hes doing his job and spot any bodging with oil pressure lights etc (and he will be well aware of this one,its as old as ABS itself). Like it or not its part of the brake system and part of the MOT to test the operation of the warning light. You might get away with it but........
