My 1990 redtop

by Allanc20xe » Tue Apr 17, 2018 5:26 pm

Hi All . Thought it was time I joined this site after some reccomendations on a Facebook page .
Back in 1994 my neighbour purchased this H reg calibra for some £5000 in 2hich time it was used occasionally covering very small mileage . For the past 5 years or so it sat on his driveway going more and more pink and gathering mould and not a week went past where I didn't ask if he wanted to sell it . Finally ! Just before Christmas he did ! For the sum of £250 a set of alloys and my ford puma lol

It would turn over and not run and hadn't done for a long time . The original slabs had been removed and the tyres taken off and just left in the garage  . First thoughts to me was just store it and sell it as it sits then I had a 4 day break between jobs . Looking over it it has some rot on the body but underneath was solid and she had only covered 61k . Non running was diagnosed down to the fuel pump . Stuck a new one on and changed the filter and boom she started however would not idle for love more money . After some fannying around and changing a few bits a new fuel regulator and idle control valve made it run like a dream

I then proceeded to get the propper alloys back on it . After a general look over I replaced the osf coil spring and top mount . Front discs and pads . Rear pads and sorted the handbrake . Replaced a load of bulbs . New wiper blades . Rebuilt the speedo as the clocks where peeling and stuck it in for an mot and held my breath

And with a fresh ticket there she sat for a month until I gathered some parts , time and , money . Sorted the heater which didn't work at all ( resistor ) and run it up as much as I could to get decent fuel through it I then proceeded to change the cambelt kit . Water pump . Thermostat and the aux belts aswell

I decided to tax it and temp insure it and drove it for the first time in months and she drove like a dream . A very pink and dirty one lol . I got it to my work and then hit it with TFR and the jet wash then came the mopping and polish

Done 100 or so miles in it that evening to try and determine if she had any issues
. Speedo cable broke ( sorting tommorow )
. The heater doesn't quite blow as hot as it should

All should be sorted this week and the ready for some propper use
