Anyone know anything about spraying alloy/intercooler?

by nikp » Tue Aug 10, 2010 10:57 am

Thinking of spraying my intercooler matt black. It's obviously an alloy intercooler, and wondered the following:

A. What do i need to do to prep it?
2. Will it effect the ability for it to cool the air?

Leave it alone. Black will not cool as well.
Its unpainted for a reason.

If I remember my physics from school right, then both a metal and a black finish have much the same rate of heat transfer. It is colours, especially white, you need to avoid.

In addition to it not being needed technically, I suspect they are not painted due to the extra cost of the process, the difficulty of getting a cosmetically acceptable finish on the fins and the paint layer reducing the space for airflow between the fins leading to lower efficiency or the need for a bigger area of fin.

black paint and aluminium doe not transfer heat at same rate...?????the paint would insulate the cooler and reduce its efficiency slightly at the cost of vanity.dont paint it.
