blocked cat,can it stop the turbo working?

by specks » Thu Jul 01, 2010 11:49 pm

im only asking as my turno no longer does anything,no smoke or anything, just stopped spooling,so,could a cat being blocked stop a turbo spooling up and cause a car to have not a lot of power, car in question is my cav turbo.

don`t really want to go and replace the turbo if there is anything i can try first,no em light, starts and drives fine, just no power and no turbo, can`t hear any hissing like a split pipe etc.

inlet?

do you mean the pipe from the airbox to the turbo aye?

wastegate and penny valve, pass,no idea what im looking for tbh, just hoping it`s an easy fix (i know i doubt it aswell)

if i get a chance at work tomorrow i`ll see if it spins at idle by looking in if i take the intake pipe off?

i would have thought the eml would have come on with a knackered cat as it would have screwed the emissions up

well, going by that pic my actuator is fine and as it should be,should be aswell, just replaced it a few months back with an uprated one.

never got a chance to take the intake pipe off and check today though, try and get it looked at tomorrow.

What chips are you running and what boost was it making before and after changing the actuator?

standard chips i reckon, last owner said it had phase 3,but no powerwheel kind of gave it away.never opened the ecu to check and was running standard boost, whatever that is,all thats done is full stainless exhaust and fmic.

i changed the actuator as i could move the rod in and out and side to side, without any problem with 2 fingers.

when i was sent the wrong dizzy cap on mine i caused a misfire which melted my cat in 5 minutes, not only would the engine not run untill i replaced the cat but i had no power as a peice of cat had blown back into the backbox which half blocked the exhaust! take the down pipe off and see if it revs up?
