Alarm ain't working!

by sinbrad » Wed Aug 09, 2006 7:51 pm

Ok guys, up until now I haven't used the car alarm, only use central locking. I have tried to arm/disarm the car using the drivers side lock but although the car deadlocks nothing else happens. I believe the windows should automatically close when holding the key in the 9 o'clock position, that don't work either. The fob I have has autowatch on the back of it and as far as I understand only works for central locking? Someone has obviously fitted an aftermarker alarm as there are sensors above each corner of the windscreen. Anyway done all the testing, arming and leaving the bonnet slighly open and then opening it etc and for the life of me cannot get any response from the alarm side of things? Any help would be appreciated

to close the windows you need to hold the key half way to 9 oclock a second or two theyl then go up,

When you lock the door right round to 9 oclock the led should light on the passenger side alarm sensor above the seatbelt, it should go on solid then flash after a bit, if it flashes at first theres a fault, sometimes if it does nothing the alarm sensors get dissconected behind them, if they are it wont do anything
If you pull the bonnet lever then lock all the doors, if you open the bonnet after about 30 seconds it should sound the horn, if not the sensors are probably dissconected as they do this to stop one alarm seting the other off when a new one is fitted

Just incase the battery has been disconnected then you will have to learn window closure for car

Sit inside car close doors ignition on lower windows pause
then close both windows and hold buttons down for about 15 seconds
then release

This will sort total closure out

Cheers guys for all your input. Will try the learning of the total closure when I get back home from work (tuesday) and see what happens. Will also keep an eye on the led indication above the passenger door but I think from recollection that it does keep flashing, which as stated indicates a fault. If this is the case is it a visit to my friendly vauxhall dealer or can I solve it in a similar manner to the paperclip test? Does anyone have or know where I can get hold of a factory wiring diagram?

Chees for that Robbie, that was my first port of call, some good info there. After a more indepth wiring diagram though, which gives details of the wires, possible colours and the routes they take to the various points in the car. Basically something that would aid in the install of a substitue alarm system or to just basically fault find. I know there will be various people out there with aftermarket alarms etc but a full wiring diagram of the standard fit alarm would be nice, possibly being a bit hopefull but you never know. If you don't ask you don't get:)

Never seen a wiring diagram of the alarm system anywhere ! might be a good idea to look through the Haynes manual
