Fuel Comp Plug??????

by C411BRA » Sat Mar 04, 2006 10:28 am

For those of you who have fitted a fuel comp, where the heck did you find the plug, are they tied back in the same place in all models?

I know they can be a sod to find, but if anyone can tell me where they found theirs, I would be very happy.

Its a yellow wiring plug tied up with the loom on the underside of the top of the dash. Normall y the easiest way to get at it is to removes the glovebox. You should then be able to see it clearly.

There are 4 phillips type screws that hold the glove box in. The 2 at the top are hidden by the odments tray. The two at the bottom can be seen when the glovebox is open.

To remove the oddments tray, take out the rubber mat. Now look to the side of the tray. On either side you will see a rectanguler piece of plastic with a gap for prying it out at the bottom. Pop both of these out. Now all you have to do is open the glove box, put a screwdriver up behind the odments tray (to use as a lever) now give it a swift, sharp tug to pop the odments tray forwards. Remove all the way and remove your screws holding the glove box in. Sounds complicated but it is a piece of cake.

Thanx

I had the glove box out but it was not apparent where the thing was. It looks like its gonna be somewhere above my passenger airbag then.

It'll be ty-wrapped to the rest of the loom, in between the hole in the dash where the fuel computer/clock goes and the air bag.

You should be able to see it if you poke your head right in where the glove box was. Or you might catch a glance of it by wiggling the loom and looking through the hole for the clock. It's tucked quite away quite well inside there.

It's damn awkward to get to the ty-wrap though cos you can't see it when you're trying to cut it.

I found mine 2day high up behind the clock, removin the glove box is the best way to find it, get your head up behind the dash.

However i couldn't find the plug for the switch by the handbrake, do all models come with this? ne clues as to where it could be hiding?

No they don't all come with that that plug. However as a rule if you have got the yellow plug at the dash it will only be a short (approx 6" long) loom you are missing. It goes from the switch in the center console and plugs into the big creamy white block connector that also connects / disconnects the electric window switches from the cars loom.

Found it :luxhello: bit of a struggle getting to it tho, almost gave myself an extra elbow by accident.

Now to fit the switch.

Thanks for the help and pix. May I suggest including the location pix in the fuel comp guide?

Next job, get the chip calibrated. Drove home last night, 60ish miles at 75 or less mph.

Trip comp tells me I averaged 71.7mpg at an average speed of 103mph.

Whats confusing is that the chip has EC:01 prog in it which is metric but the displays show mph/mpg WTF? The PPM count is way out too at 8350 instrad of 5468.

When i did a reset on the move the average speed while i was doing 70 indicated was 111 but again mph not kmh.

Is this a normal abnormality when the wrong calibration is in the box?

<a href="http://www.abs-zero.com" target="_blank">http://www.abs-zero.com</a>

for the reprogramming of the chip either to a standard set of instructions or specific for your car.

The reason there is no pic for the locaton of the plug is that it is not always in the same place. Part of the fun in modding trying to find things

Yep, mine was tied up over the top of the airbag, had to do it by feel and make sure i cut the tie wrap an not the wiring.

I guess if I installed LPG, the mpg reading that is averaging far to high, would be reading somewhere near the equivalent by cost. A bit of an expensive way to sort the calibration out though.

I have already filled in the form for Sub-Zero and will be emailing him shortly.
