wheel align issues

by thesaint » Fri Feb 18, 2005 8:06 pm

I'm a bit worried at the moment, i had a 4 wheel alignment done on my V6 about a week ago by the local vaux dealer 'cos it was skipping all over the road on acceleration and eating tyres at an increadible rate.
It drives really well now, nice and direct feel from the front and seems to have a bit more grip, but...When i put it into a corner a bit quick i get a strange scraping noise and if i go from steering lock to straight and boot it from a standing start from the lights i get 1 or sometimes a couple of loud bangs from the front.
Doesn't always happen but happens enough for me to start worrying.
Anyone else seem to have had this issue at all, i don't really want to start taking suspension components hubs etc apart unless i really really have to.

I've heard of similar noises being due to the suspension top mount bushes, but don't take that as gospel

my garage thinks it is as said above - suspension top mount bush is worn... hopefully getting it sorted this week. will post up if it sorts the problem.

Tried a couple of things which seemed to have worked, (not sure which one it was), i undid the top mount and re-seated it, then saw they had done the track rod end up off centre, so when the wheels are pointing forward the balljoint was locked over on full travel, re-set that and seems to be OK now, strange fickle things steering and suspension;)
