steering out of control

hi you lot got a 20 16v red top on a 1993 L reg and me steering wheel wont take me in a straight line at all and i got a knoking as well it stops when i go aroung a bend but then there is a claking noise the tyrers are all pumped up fine dont no what to do can any one help ?

check tracking, are the wheels balanced?

rod ends maybe??

then again a knocking noise could well be suspension related? check dampers and springs?

just got the thing some one sead it might be power steering or some thing
how do i find out what to look for ??? thanks

jack the car up and grab the wheel at top and bottom ...give it a good shake and see if there is any movmnet

do same at the three and nine postion of the wheel

turn wheel from lock to lock and check for any play in rack

if your not sure, take it for an MOT and get them to check it out for you
