Big Brake Issue - Please help

by Gigabite » Sun Dec 23, 2007 7:38 pm

Hi,

I have today changed the front discs and pads on my recently purchased DTM.

I have had a complete nightmare with it all the bolts were seized and when I finished the front I went to pump the pedel and it will not firm up. Just wondering do I need to bleed the breaks and how much is this going to cost me?

Where could I have gone wrong, didnt touch the pipes connected to the caliper. Lossen the lid on brake fluid thingy in the engine bay as per the clubcalibra.com how to guide.

Please help me!!!!

The pistons were pretty solid - only just got the pads on. Are you saying if i drive it with it all spongy it will improve?

I had the brake fluid resovior undone for quite a while, well the whole time I was changing ths discs and pads

I took it out and its seems to have improved, did my brakes at my mates house and on the way home seemed to have a grinding noise coming from the front passinger side. Any ideas to what that could be?

Also when I lock my car with the key and take the key out it unlocks itself anyone ever had this?

And to add to the list my hot air blower in the car has all but stopped working, get a trickle of air but nothing like it should be, any ideas on this one!

Thanks In Advance for all your help.

when you lock the door check to see if the passenger door is locking, you'll see the paddle for locking the door inside moving over to the locked position if it doesn't then it will unlock. mine sticks sometimes as well and the car unlocks it's self.

the central locking was working fine for me. and as for the heater. i did say that the resistor on the blower motor was causing the problem and it only worked on full speed selection.

and as i said on msn. the fluid aint that good as it has been sat for many years. changing the fluid will help things

I would advise changing the brake fluid if the cars been sat around for a while, you might find moiture has gotten in there and that wont help things...

The grinding noise could be the dust cover behind the discs rubbing on the discs, ive had that problem before when ive played around with the brakes, just get the car up in the air, take the wheel off and spin the disc, you'll soon track down where the noise is coming from...

I know how you felt about the seized bolts, you should invest in a blow torch, you can get them pretty cheap, got mine for £9.99 from halfords, will come in handy for any other things you might need to change later on... If you plan on doing any suspension work then GET ONE!!!
