braking problem

by stainesy » Wed Nov 14, 2007 4:46 pm

i was coming up to a roundabout today in my mk3 astra estate and the brakes went solid and i could hardly get the car to stop.
the brakes work again now
but now with the engine running when i push the brake pedal down i get a pop pop sound from the exhaust
and when i release the brake pedal again the exhaust goes pop pop again.
its not a loud pop but its noticable.
why is it doing this and what is it?

any help welcome

something wrong with the servo or vacuum feed/one way valve in the pipe to the servo I would think.

the brakes work fine now but there is still the poping sound from the exhaust when ipump the brake pedal. does this mean the brakes could fail again?

well this is what has happened.
i was coming up to a roundabout and i put my foot on the brake and the pedal felt like as if the engine was not on but it was and the car wasnts stoping like it normaly does.
it took ages to stop and i had to realy push hard and eventualy it stoped. then after that the brakes were fine again.
exept now if i have the engine running and listen wile i pump the brake pedal there is a pop pop sound from the exhaust pipe when i push it down and another pop pop sound when i release it again.
its not a realy loud pop sound but its noticable. and it only hapens when i push the brake pedal down and up so it definately caused by the brakes.
