Removing ABS?
Will it be ok to remove the ABS from the car? do I have to take it all out or can I just remove the sensors and ecu or will it fail the M.O.T. because the ABS unit is still there?
I've never liked the idea of ABS, always thought what of something goes dicky and you have no brakes, then it happened today! It seemed to think the wheels were locking up as soon as I touched the brakes so kicked the pedal back up, was very hard to stop even at low speed (5-10 mph) let alone 30 or 60, so I pulled over, unplugged one of the sensors to stop it working and go back to regular brakes and I'd like to keep it like that!
I know if the ABS light stays on its an M.O.T. fail, and if the car has ABS but the light doesnt come on its a fail, but if I remove the ABS unit I'd need to change the master cylinder wouldn't I? ABS ones have 2 outputs and non-ABS has 4 (or is that just peugeot?)
It's also a fair bit of work to remove the unit and re-route all the pipes!
Any M.O.T. testers to help out?
Thanks,
Rob

Check your sensor rings are nice and clean, not broken, and not loose on the shafts. That can lead to dangerous happenings as it thinks the wheels are locked when they are not so backs off the pressure. Other than that i'ts fairly reliable from my experience and worth having overall.

That happend to my first Calibra and I ended up rear ending a rover. Not much came of it though. Very scary when car wont stop!
Turned out that when I jet washed the engine the ABS controller got a little wet.
