New shocks and springs

Hello all,

I have just had my tracking checked and found that the front drivers side is all over the place. I was going to get it aligned but the mechanic said that my front springs and/or shocks could need replacing. [img]/sad.gif[/img]
How can I check for sure without actually removing the shocks and springs. and if they do need changing which set up would you recomend. I wouln't want to drop the car too much cus it's on stndard 16 alloys. [img]/sad.gif[/img]

There is a bounce test for the 'dampers' (technically the springs absorb the road shocks but that's a different story)

OK, place both hands on one corner of the car and try to press it down to compress the suspension, quickly release, the car should bounce back up and settle down to where it was. If it bounces twice the dampers are worn.

1. down
2. up
3. settle

If the dampers are leaking oil then they should be replaced in axle pairs ie both fronts and/or both rears.

Thanks for that. After the push test it appears that all my shocks are fine,
but my spring are very squeaky. Should I change them or just get my steering re aligned?
