Traction control light still on?

by sinbrad » Thu Dec 14, 2006 7:16 pm

Finally managed to get my ABS sensor swapped and althought the ABS is now working better than it ever was, the TC light is still coming on which was one of the problems that I had mentioned quite a while back. The ECU does it's check upon starting the car and all looks good. However, once I head off the TC light comes on. Hoped it wasn't going to be anything major but just in case I've managed to get hold of a whole TC housing and also a TC ecu. Hope it might be just a case of whipping one out and replacing it or at the most both? Any suggestions would come as a great help?

Cheers

Cheers for that Robbie, that's what gave me the idea of obtaining another ECU and TC motor. Had an in depth look at the website and was hoping that there would have been an easy solution to my prob. Looks like it's going to be trial and error?

My TC does the same as yours :frown:

Ive got a spare TC motor which i stripped down and cleaned and when i get round to it will change it over to see if it makes any difference.

If you want to strip it down here's a link to show you how :

does it start about 30/40mph? my old v6 had a t/c prob and it turned out that the abs ring was split, and when was getting upto some speeds it was opening up and sending false signal to t/c ecu

Mine comes on about 2/3 seconds after pulling away.

Same as mine, 2/3 secs after pulling away. Mechanic looked at rings and they were in good shape.

Robbie, was looking into stripping the TC motor at some stage. The V6 website states that the brushes are the likely part to degrade and by replacing them it sort of gives the motor a new lease of life? Well, tried emailing both the V6 admin and also the site that they suggest getting the brushes from to get the part no. if any and both have declined to reply. Will try giving the brush suppliers a call and see what they say?

Would this not cause the ABS light to come on as well?

Different tyre pressure's can cause the TC to come on.

Yep air ! The front drivers side needed topping up once twice aweek ,when i had her tracked i ask the nice man to rotate the wheels front to back after about a week of the same tyre pressure no t/c light comes on. I am not saying that is what is wrong with yours but worth a mention!

I think I'll give the air thing a go before I plunge headfirst into dismantling the TC motor but I do a regular tyre pressure check so might not be that. Is there a definative period of time where the TC needs to settle down after fitting new tyres? Read that even new tyres can cause the TC light to show up. The tyres have been on for a while but the abs was causing the main problem and now that's fixed will the TC sort itself out?

From V6calibra.com

Under certain conditions where there is a difference between the rolling diameters of the front wheels the TC may activate or may generate a TC fault light. This can happen where you have one new and one worn tyre, a puncture - travelling on the space-saver wheel or even just after fitting 4 new tyres. To minimise this effect the TC ECU features a 'learn' function to compensate under these conditions.
