disc brakes temperature

by Molecule » Sun Feb 12, 2006 1:45 pm

Don't usually stick my fingers on hot surfaces for fun but I have been monitoring the temperature of my front and rear brakes as I think I could do with more braking power ( near misses ). Front vented ( diamond black ) rear solid oem. Even when abused the rear ones are only lukewarm, the front always very very hot I can only touch them for a sec.
It that the way it should be?

I once thought my brakes were a bit sh*te so decided to give them a complete overhaul -

new discs front and back
new pads all round
new brake fluid
new handbrake shoes
new handbrake cable
black diamond brake hoses front and rear

and what a huge difference it made

Check all your brake components and renew if necessary, that might eliminate any problems you have.

I have got all the bits to do exactly the same. I just need to get new hoses. What do you recommend, it's not something I have bought before.

Discs and pads are new, got goodridge hoses - in the house, waiting for a decent sunny day - the rest needs to be checked I suppose.

Aren't the brakes biased towards the front, in other words the front brakes do most of the work?

This might be why they are a lot hotter.

If you can toutch them at all after a hard drive without burning your fingers you're not really using what you have.. Thats not to say they're any good either though, but you know what i mean.
