Shocking...

by Rusty_CallyT » Mon Feb 06, 2006 1:07 am

right, after the hook meet (or rather the drive back from it) i realised just how bad my car is. I have -35mm spax springs and shox and its hard as... well sommit very hard, and as Stu pointed out not only is the camber a mile out the car is bouncing and skipping down the road, its not pleasant, loss of grip and being grabbed by the seatbelt all the time isnt handy.

So what can people recommend for a man on a budget?

Id like to have a 30 or 35mm drop and im planning to throw camber correction bushes and 225/35/18's on with a ET40 offset. So i need sommit hardish but not painful, something that will give enough to keep all 4 wheels on the floor, but not cause too many issues with tyres scrubbing.

Any suggestions? recommendations?

The only setup I'd use would be koni adjustables with matched eibach springs. However they aren't for someone on a budget. In my experience you get what you pay for. Especially when buying suspenson components

And Adam already knows that

Jay's right though - I've used that Koni setup twice, and it really is very good.

From memory they are about £450 for the kit. Plus fitting of course. The koni kit normally comes with ROC springs but if you can find somewhere that will supply matched Eibachs you are laughing. Best to go for the Cavalier Turbo kit as it comes with fully adjustables all round, the Calibra Turbo kit only comes with the from adjustables.

i have used koni with the vogtland springs on mine no complaints but i am fwd only means that i could dial out lift off oversteer, also a full koni kit i used on my corsa, got rid of all the nasty faults that vauxhall suspension suffers from

well iv spoken to a shop and they recomended a kit:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->>> Not many options for this car now!

>> Best bet is probably a Koni sports adjustable kit £399.00 including vat<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Yes they are top adjustable damping front & rear, should come with Koni springs as it is a Koni sports kit. (Note that Koni, like Bilstein don't make their own springs), SK248.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

had the Bilstein sprint line ( I think) kit on mine was very good handling but bit hard for some

if that is so...how come you buy a matched kit for Bilstein

just because they matched doesnt mean they made by same company

edit: just found out H&R make the springs that are packaged with bilstein kits

indeed, Koni kits use ROC springs. That's why I always specify matched Eibach's with my Koni kits as it give the better setup. ROC are ok though.
