by Robert_Dale » Thu Jan 05, 2006 11:05 am

Guys and Gals,

My new V6 need lowering big time, am going to put just springs on at the mo and in summer time when i save some cash dot he full suspension!!

but for now how low can i take it on 17"'s and wheres the best place to get springs from?

Also will it affect the automatic transmission if i lower it or will it be fine?

Cheers

Rob

Since you have no 4x4 you can go as low as you're brave enough to try. Hold on, that was awful English. Anyway, it shouldn't affect anything really - but you'll risk grounding the bumpers, exhaust etc; and the ride will be pretty harsh after 40mm.

i'd go for gmax springs lower it 40mm but you need to watch the fuel line as i've heard thats one of the things you have to look out for when lowering the v6

I know mine is a Turbo, and mine is a 30mm drop and you know how bumpy that is Rob!

You might not wanna go for 40mm, but its up to you mate!

I'd recommend Eibach V6 springs with an alleged 30 mm drop (~£150).
I have had no problems with mine apart from a tiny bit of outer wheel arch liner rub on the fronts. No probs with rubbing fuel lines and it still gets over all of the speed humps in my area without contact.
You can get away with just replacing springs and leaving the stock shocks but you really should change the shocks at the same time. If you don't fancy Konis then go for Bilstein fixed height shocks - these are a reasonable match for the Eibachs and are cheaper than Konis.

With a good set of aftermarket springs and shocks you should notice a significant improvement in V6 handling. Inevitably the ride will be slightly more harsh.

Dropped -40mm on Gmax shocks and springs, bought brand new for £200 (postage included) off Ebay. Recommended gear for the price.

I also have 17's - offset ET38 with 235 wide tyres on the rear without no rubbing, they only JUST tuck under the arches though.

Koni Sport Top Adjustable Suspension Kits 40mm 215/35.18 ET38 no rubbing
were on offer at £250.
now £350

although sumit werid happened, seem the front went down as expected but rear is raised a little, looks like a dtm look, but i will have to change rear springs, but not sure wether to get 40mm or 60mm for rear as 40mm they said they supplied is high in rear
