wots the best way to bleed the brakes

right i have about 3 diffrent bleeding tools ones like a rubber tube the other one i have is a bottle and the other is a pressure one that you use the air from the spare tyre i have used them all and must be doing somthing wrong coz the pedal gets hard when pumped (engine off) turn on the engine and pedal drops to the floor so that suggest the brake survo is working correct? so i go round undo the bleed nipple one at a tine 1/4 of a turn bleed tighten and move to the next right all done go for a test drive no brakes foot to the floor pump the brake pedal now i have somthing but still very spongy what am i doing wrong is there an easy way to get soild ish brakes

I use the "air from spare tyre" method with a full reservoir bottle so that you've got plenty of fluid. Try to get a piece of clear pipe to put on the bleed nipple so that you can actually see if air is coming out or if the fluid is flowing without air bubbles. This way you can be fairly confident that you've got all the air out. From memory I think you should do the rears first and then the fronts but I'm not 100% on that. Make sure you keep the reservoir topped up and don't let the "on-car" res drop below the low mark at any time whilst bleeding or air will re-enter the system. If after you start the engine the pedal is soft then pump it several times. If it's still spongy then start the process from the beginning. It's always worked for me...

BTW... replacing old rubber hoses with new braided hoses makes a hell of a difference in feel...

So what is actually wrong?

If u pump brake with engine off the pedal will get hard and when u turn on it gets softer, thats fine.

The only problem is when the pedel travels to far indicating air in the system or worn master cylinder seals.

Its best pressure bleed system starting from furthest away brake calaper from master to closest. Remeber its a diagnal spilt system so best to look in haynes manual for correct sequence.

sorted it now got a mate to do the brake peddal much easier than doing it yourself now i have solid stopping power [img]/smile.gif[/img]

always start with the firthest away from resevior and finish with the closest
