Knocking (ANOTHER PROBLEM)

by dicky » Fri Oct 28, 2005 6:55 pm

Well i have also noticed that my new car has a loud knock when u turn the wheel or accelerate and decelerate and it can be felt through the wheel.
Feels like its drivers side only.

Any ideas?

So the problem with my gears and knock is the same?

Is that expensive?

the mounts dont cost much, im not sure how much though, and there just a bolt on / off job, autovaux list the parts on there site,
i thought mine had gone the other day as when i accelerated hard there was a knocking, theyve all been replaced before, i was going to have a good look when i got home, but i over took a lorry....
the bracket holding the mount snapped and locked the engine and wheels , ive never heard of this happening before!

hmmm, it does the same knock when i steer, could it not be anti-roll bar or lower arm ball joints?

I would say it sounds like a lower suspension arm bush.

I would've thought outer CVs.

Not just a singular 'Knock'.

Must be the weather for it!! Mine's just developed a knock under the same conditions. I could hear it strongest offside front. Just had a look over, found that me anti roll bar bushes are worn. The inner wrap around bushes.
Have a look where the bush wraps around the bar, if theres a bit of a gap between the bar and bushe, that'll be worn!
Not sure if the bushes are available separately, find out Monday!

Ahh good point, I hadn't realised it wasn't constant. Its annoying when the CVs go though.

Ball joints or lower arm bushes... I've just had a problem with knocking on mine under braking and acceleration. Turned out to be badly fitting aftermarket brakepads. Last thing I changed too... Typical...!!!

knocking and also trouble changing gear ( other post ), more likely to be engine mounts i think, when the wishbone bushes and antirollbar links went on mine, only knocked when going over a bump

Sorry... not seen other post... My engine nearly fell out quite a few years back when one of my engine mounts actually snapped. One of the bolts was missing and the engine was just held in by one bolt on the nearside...
