Brake Recommendation Pls

by Alcofrolic » Tue Oct 11, 2005 10:21 pm

HI,

Can someone recommend a good make of brake pads and discs, I know nothing about them so not sure where to look.

The ones I have on at the moment are like the cheapest make ever and squeek like mad. Id really like some decent ones.

Thanks in advance.

hi ya. try to buy spares from a motor factor .. they supply garages etc. so normal they have good quality stuff as standard. also get a tube of copper grease. put it on the edeges of the pad that touch the caliper and also on the back of the pads. a blob about smartie size rub over the back. this helps pads to slide and should stop the brake squeel. clean the claiper with a wire brush before fitting the new pads. hope this helps.

Hi thanks for your reply..
I took the car in to a garage and they did all that but it hasnt helped, they are still squeaking like mad. Its just cos they are a cheap make.

Forgot to mention what car i had, in case that makes a difference. Its a 16v 1994 2.0

Thanks

did they just do the front brakes??? calibras have discs and drums on the rear. it could be the rears that are making the noise

Green stuff pads are top pads IMO!

Geniune vaux pads are alot better than greenstuff, ive tried both, had fade badly with green stuff, never had it with vaux.

black diamond drilled and grooved front and rear with greenstuff can brake damn hard, stop real fast, never had the abs kick in and never had fade, greenstuff will only perfom 100% on performance discs because of the extra heat generated green stuff really start to work above 300degrees C

contact LMF for a big brake conversion, it is so good that my car now stops whenever i want to. Green stuff pad are not bad, it has really long life. I used around 3years without changing it. I am not sure about the fading caused by green stuff as I never had problem using it.

swchio, if your brakes last you 3 yrs your a very light braker or slow driver, lol

im going through a few sets of pads a yr, no matter what make i use, but only vaux stops fade.

I had green stuff pads along with Brembo discs but were not drilled or grovved on my calibra which i had fitted and they were very good, they only faded at 120mph whilest driving on a test track.
