i think that you should put the best tyre you can afford on mainly because the tyres are the only thing in contact with the road and when i have my daughter in the car i like to know that i have the best quality tyre on the car

ive been running goodyear gsd3's for the last few years, and ok at 100 quid a corner a bit pricey but i find them to be excellent in all conditions

i would stick with a name brand to be honest but also i would still look at the tread pattern

for example if you had 2 tyres of similar brand and cost the one with a directional tread pattern will give you greater traction and genral road holding. this is one reason why, in the wet the tyre will pick the rain up from under the centre of the tyre and push it outwards where as an asymetrical tyre will keep the rain under the tyre in channels therefore being a potenntial hazzard.

also i find directional tyres to be alot quieter
