Were the ones you took out damaged/deformed in any way?
Perhaps they were originally fitted to take up any slack/stop movement in the arm mounting points? But if vaux found that they weren't doing this (sleves not deformed or damaged after a few year's use) that could be why they don't bother to put them in any more?

Once it's bolted in, I cannot see the bush moving around at all, those bolts are very tight! Would have thought that they are there to aid location more than anything else. Just fitted Poly bushes to mine, couldn't work out why the bolt was so loose in the bush until I found the sleeves in the old bush.
Either way it's using the sleeves will make centralising the bush easier, my advice would be to fit them for this reason. Can't see them doing any harm!
