Spax shocks problem.
This is my first post on the site! Have been looking for ages, so here goes. I bought a set of Spax shocks and springs about 2 months ago, The PSX adjustable shocks kit. I started with fitting the rear shocks and thats as far as I got, they were knocking straight away, so I sent the rear shocks back to spax, they have come back and they are still the same! Is it any thing I'm doing? Or is it the shocks? I've put the standard ones back on and no knock! The car is a 16v Ecotec DTM with Irmscher springs. Im keeping the irmscher springs. So if these arent any good, which shocks would ppl recommend? Bearing in mind im keeping the standard irmscher springs on the DTM? Thanks Ashley.

Well this depends on what the shocks are for?!!! What sort of drop are they designed for?
If they are designed for 60mm drop and you are using Irmesher springs, then it will knock as the shock isn't long enough for the spring.
Another thing that might be knocking, is a worn bush?!!! loose bolt?!!!
Cheers

The drop on the springs are -25mm on the irmscher as standard and the spax are -35mm. The bolt at the bottom, where its connected to the swingarm is tight and the nuts at the top are tight, spax supply new rubber bushes for the tops and metal bushes for the bottoms, they were fitted, I asked Spax (spoke to technical) And he said I had fitted them correctly. I have fitted Bilstien cheap shocks to my dads SE5, they are fine, just cant get the Spax to stop knocking! Ive taken them off and Im just about to send them back. This is just a last effort to make sure I had fitted them right. Which bushes? Thanks for your reply.

I bought the whole kit, with springs, but it was cheaper to do that than seperate shocks! But dont want to change the springs as they are specific to that car and I want to keep it with the original Irmscher parts. Yep replaced the bushes with spax, tryed putting more rubber between the mount and shock at the top as thats where I thought the knock was coming from, still the same.

I remember seeing someone with a cally turbo that had koni shocks and some stiffer standard ride height springs because of the speed bumps in his road. Think they made the springs specially but they must have made the shocks longer to accomodate the springs because, as Naz said above, they'd be too short with standard ride height. They'd spend most of their time "topped out" which sounds like whats happening with yours.
It'll prob cost you more but you could see if they'd make you some to your spec......
No harm in asking......
