Ordered new wheels
My current wheels have bent, all 4 of them. I have fixed them once already and it took them 3 days to get bent again. In a word, they're crap - too soft. Wheels are Dezent Type F 215/40/17... they look nice, but are serious crap.
the results is a vibration at 60mph+.. both steering wheel and the whole car..
I'm going for 18" now, but my options are quite limited. I want quality wheels. There's not many around here(croatia) to choose from. Practicaly limited to OZ and BBS. I need 4x100 wheels with the biggest ET possible or 5x110 - willing to do a 5 stud conversion.
In the end I decided to get OZ ultraleggera 4x100 7x18. ET is 38 :/ ah well. You can't have it all. It's probably one of the lightest wheels around so the handling will be improved. I'm not really sure they will look that great on a calibra, but seeing as they're quite big - 18" - it might look ok.
Then it was time to decide on the tires. I wanted to keep the sidewalls as tall as possible, we have some crappy roads here. So I first looked for 215/40/18, which quite a big wheel and could cause srubbing, but I was hoping it would fit without major problems and decided to risk it. but alas, it seems only a couple of manufacturers make this size of tire - conti sport contact 2 and pzero neros - and I wanted toyo r888s or yokos a048.. But they only come in 225/40/18 which would probably never fit and 225 is quite a "fat" tire for a 7J rim IMO. Not quite happy with my choices I kept searching tirerack.com and found out michelin make their pilot sport PS2 in 205/40/18... they seem to be way better in terms of perfomance than contis or pzeros - judging by reviews and comments etc..
and the 205/40/18 might just fit without problems
any comments?
also, i thought of correcting the small ET by grinding of a couple of mm from the front hubs if that is possible. I only need a couple of mm to get at least close to ET49.. i dont really want to grind the rims as they're a "bit" more expensive than hubs.
tramlining annoys me.. i orderd a kmac front kit to get max castor, but i want to be close to correct ET also..

Yokohamas come in 215/40/18 in the parada tyre. you can get those on eiretyres.com
Obviously if you went for 215/35/18s you would give yourself more options with the tyres. Toyo Proxies come in this size. Currently have these fitted on the front, and to be honest i wouldnt be able to fit 215/40/18 without some serious rubbing on turning. I have this larger size tyre fitted on the rear however.
The 215/35/18s are very low profile. and u will more than likely rub your rims as they dont have the protection 225s would possibly give. we have fairly bad roads over here also and potholes are a nightmare with such low profiles but i guess in order to look good, you have to pay a price. Luckily i only drive about 3000 miles a year, otherwise id probably go back to 17s

i dont like toyo proxies.. or any of those symmetric V pattern tyres.. they get ripped to shreads on our local track.. because of the pattern, the very rough asphalt on the track ripps the skinnyish V pattern... so it becomes more like a II patern it doesnt use up the tread, it rips it appart to bits..
plus toyo proxies make some serious noise in my experience, and tread wear is terrible and the tire starts to lose its abilities at half way through the tread..
i have 215/40/17 currently, there's just about 10mm room left at the back of the arch at full lock.. but the current rims are ET35 which means they go tiny bit closer to the arch on full lock than ET38.. so it may or may not catch a bit on full lock..
im more worried about the lip, may have to roll them a bit.. it seems you can pull out/roll up the arch lip for 5-10mm without breaking the paint. so i hope that will be enough.. i really dont wanna go 35 profile.. thats just too low.. and i want 18s.. tough heh
