I got them from my local RSR tyre place in West Norwood.

Had Falkens on my old 16V, would never have them again as the walls on two of them split:frown:

<!--QuoteBegin-houston+--><div class='quotetop'>(houston)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->nankangs are ditch finders, i replaced a whole set on my mr2 cos it was too scary, a bit of rain felt like ice, and driving in snow just wasnt happening! i used f1s for a short while and they were amazing, but only a short while cos they didnt last long, then i used toyos and they were lot better than nankangs but obviously not as good as f1s but lasted a lot longer.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Here in Deutschland, starting this year, if the Polizei catch you driving on summer tyres in the winter, it's an immediate 200 euro fine. I don't understand why any of you would be running summer tyres in the winter in the UK anyway, considering it's much colder up there than it is here in Southern Germany, so I imagine that black ice is a bigger problem up there.

I drove in the snow once with my summer tyres, and let me tell you, I will never do it again.

I currently run Dunlop SP Winter Sport Tyres sized 225/45/17 and plan on using them every year from now on.

You can get winter tyres on steel wheels rather cheap too. Winter tyres in 15" or 16" are considerably cheaper than 17", but I didn't want my car looking like every other beat-up cally rolling around here.

With safety in mind, at the very least get all-weather tyres. It's not worth getting hurt over something like tyres. :nono:

<!--QuoteBegin-dicky+--><div class='quotetop'>(dicky)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Thats a rip off! I had 215/35 18 Nankangs fitted to my calibra and they cost £75 for two including fitting, balancing and new valves.

There not bad tyres at all, i was impressed with them!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

if you got these tyres at this price, me & the nankang rep want to buy 500 from you at that price!!!!

i talked with the nankang rep today and at £75 fully fitted for 2 would mean

per tyre £37.50
- £1.00 for valve/£2.00 for balance/£0.50 casing disposal
-17.5%vat. which is about £29.00!!!!!!
so that means for a 215/35x18 nankang tyre, the garage sold you these tyres at a great loss or you got a great bargin!!!! so if there are more going at this price i will hire a lorry to come and collect 500 of them
please let me know a.s.a.p please. cheers

not the case mate. its loads warmer in the uk, due to the gulf stream, and ice and snow are much rarer. i hate that winter tyre law, ive got chunky tyres on my wee golf and they have been fine all winter. good for handbrake vs ice action too!

on the nankangs, i am very impressed with mine. thought they were going to be well cheap and nasty, but are very sticky. not as good as the F1's i had, obviously. would have them again though.

nb how people who say nankangs are ok drive 4x4s, in an mr2 tyre choice is crucial, i know of no other car where tyre choice can make so much difference, ask anyone who drives/drove one and theyll tell you the same, in the cally id prob say there ok but from my experience i can honestly say where there grip limit is and how they compare to f1s and toyos.

if your just gonna potter around and not likely to put your foot down then by all means go for nankangs, but if like me you like to push your grip to its limits then nankangs are not for you, best spend a few quid extra on tyres than a few hundred on repair bills!

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->thanks mate, i'm def not buying nankangs now<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Don't be put off by a couple of overdramatic posts. To say that driving them in a bit of rain is like driving on ice is a crazy thing to say. I've been running them for 6 months now and I know Chavtastic had them before. I have absolutely no problem recommending them at all.

A friend of mine has just bought a set for his Fiat Coupe Turbo for £36 each...!!! They were 205/50/16 though.

I'd also recommend Khumos and Marshalls too...

As for "getting what you pay for", all this really means is that you are paying for advertising and sponsorship instead off just paying for the tyre. In reality, there is three fifths of F all difference in traction between most of these tyres... and that's a fact...!!!!!! In actual tests carried out by professional drivers, test times around a track for everything from budget tyres to top branded tyres to remoulds to part worns was marginal.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I don't understand why any of you would be running summer tyres in the winter in the UK anyway, considering it's much colder up there than it is here in Southern Germany, so I imagine that black ice is a bigger problem up there.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->There's surprisingly little snow in the UK these days and you'll probably not find yourself driving in it more than 2-3 days a year... if at all. To be honest, I pray for snow just for a bit of 4x4 fun but my prayers are rarely answered. As for driving on black ice, unless you've got studded tyres then you're on a loser from the start with summer or winter tyres...

Was x-country skiing in Zwiesel a few weeks ago and the snow there was thick but they tend to keep on top of the road clearing unlike the UK authorities who are useless. I would have loved to have had my 4x4 Turbo when I was out there...

Thanks Mick,
i'm just on a budget with tyres although i've got a bit more cash together now, there is so much choice with tyres and once i've bought them i'm stuck with them until i need a new set. i've priced up the tyre places round here and they want £65+ a tyre for a reasonalble make up to over £100 a tyre, so thats why i looked on ebay, the nankangs at £43 a tyre and the falkens at £50 a tyre seemed a bargain, i need to get the tyres on the car by mid next week.
